Rad 70's Dream Wedding With Big Vegas Energy. San Diego, CA | Natalie & Cris
When Natalie and Cris first started talking about getting married, the plan was to go to Vegas.
Not because they wanted to elope on a whim, but because the vibe was just perfect. Somewhere during the planning process, though, they realized they didn't actually have to leave San Diego to create a wedding that felt like them. Everything they loved about Vegas already existed in the places they spent their weekends together. Instead of building the day around a venue, they built it around their neighborhood.
The morning started at home with their two dogs, a black Lab and TJ Special, happily weaving between everyone getting ready. There were only twelve guests coming to the wedding, which meant nobody felt rushed and there wasn't a long list of people waiting on the next part of the timeline. It was one of those mornings where everyone could take their time, share a drink, tell stories, and actually enjoy the fact that it was finally wedding day.
Natalie found the most perfect vintage inspired mini dress with beautiful lace bell sleeves that felt equal parts bridal and effortlessly cool. Cris had a custom vintage western suit made that looked like it belonged in another decade, right down to the piping and oversized collar.
We photographed the entire wedding on a mix of both digital and 35mm film, and this was exactly the kind of day that film was made for. The colors, the vintage clothing, the neighborhood bars, even the late afternoon light all seemed to slow down a little on film in a way that matched the pace of the day itself.
A stretch Hummer pulled up to the house, and everyone piled in for an afternoon spent making the rounds at some of Natalie and Cris's favorite places. It never felt like we were trying to turn an ordinary place into something extraordinary. The point was that it already mattered to them. Starting at the local liquor store, they grabbed a couple tallboys and we wandered over to the laundromat, before making our way to Lancers for a game of pool.
One of the things that I loved the most about this day was that every stop had a story attached to it. Nothing was chosen because it looked good online or because someone had seen another couple do it first. These were simply the places that had become part of their life together.
The ceremony was intimate in all the right ways with 12 or so close friends who all came dressed to KILL. The looks were all perfect and complimented both the couple and venue flawlessly. There wasn't a huge production or an endless schedule to keep up with. Instead there was cake,lots of laughs, photos with the dogs, and the kind of relaxed evening that happens when people aren't trying to squeeze every tradition into a single day.
Looking back through this gallery, what stands out to me isn't any one location or detail. It's how comfortable they were. They never looked like they were performing for the camera or trying to recreate someone else's wedding. They spent the day doing things they already loved with people they genuinely wanted around them, and that made every photograph feel honest.
It's also a reminder that some of the best wedding locations aren't destinations at all. Sometimes they're the neighborhood bar where everyone knows your name, the liquor store you've stopped at a hundred times before, or the streets you've walked together for years.
Natalie and Cris almost got married in Vegas, but in the end they brought the parts they loved most back home. Their wedding had all the charm, nostalgia, and vintage character they were hoping for, while feeling unmistakably like a San Diego day from beginning to end.
